I see you Lord

18th March 2010

By CBLlauderes

Im so blessed my Lord i can see you

In all the lovely things

So fine and true.

I see you in the beauty

Of the flowers and the rain

I see you between the lines

Of the sweet refrain.

Im so blessed my Lord i can see you

Even when im lonely and in pain

I see you in the beauty

Of the stars at night

I see you in my life that feels alright.

I see you Lord in sorrow and in happiness

I see you in the glory of the sweet success

I see you Lord every hour everyday

I can see you Lord whenever i pray.

Im so blessed my Lord i can see you

In the smile of the baby sweet and true

I can see you in the eyes of my very best friend

I see you in this crowd

Just like the love will never end.

Filipinos, beware! Thieves are everywhere!

18th March 2010

It has been an eventful month because of a series of robberies recently, victimizing mostly Filipinas. Police report shows that as of February 28, 2010, twelve flats were being forcibly entered by thieves. Laptop, cellphones, jewelries and cash, among others, were stolen. One of the victims, Adela Snell, had lost her laptop.

Migrant workers’ weekend events

18th March 2010

By Maria Nieves

 trodoos.JPG

The Saint Joseph Social Center (SJSC) Filipino group has organized an excursion for everyone interested to go to Trodoos, the place in Cyprus to enjoy the snow. Last Sunday February 7, 2010, there were two buses filled with passengers from Nicosia who want to experience seeing the snow. Apparently, Asian workers are still awed by the clean clear snow that even if it was chilling cold in the mountain, everybody enjoyed lying, jumping, sliding on, catching the snow flakes and throwing snow balls at each other especially the kids who came along. Of course, taking pictures and videos here and there were never forgotten. The excursionists have had their lunch in the nearby picnic park. After the cold and hot lunch, the group left Trodoos and went to Kykkos where everybody was amazed not only with the statue of Arch. Macarios but also the magnificent view of the entire island. After the Macarios statue the group proceeded down to the Kykkos monastery where they again enjoyed taking pictures inside and outside the monastery. Thanks to all who join the Trodoos and Kykkos excursion. Next trip next Sunday will be to Limassol to watch the carnival festival parade.

I will always…

18th March 2010

By Carmen B. LlauderesI will always … Love you with all my life, like a bestfriend on your side; light a candle to guide my way, So as not to lose my sight.

I will always … Overcome sorrow and pain, shame and guilt, Just to regain our lost friendship; Overlook things around and fix my eyes on Jesus alone.

I will always … Value Word of Life that made me a valuable person I am today. Vanish from this troubled world, But my love keeps you on hold.

I will always … Encourage your people to trust and love you, For great is Thy Faithfulness.

Entrust my life in the hands of the Lord for all eternity.

But most of all…

I will always LOVE you with undefeated faith and responsibility.

HAPPY LOVE DAY TO ALL!

Corn oil; 1 Tbs. Patis (fish sauce); 3 Tbs. Soy sauce; Salt & Pepper to taste; 1 Chicken Bouillon Cubemenu.jpg

Cooking procedure:Begin by browning the chicken using four tablespoons of corn oil and season it lightly with salt and pepper. After the chicken browns, add the garlic and let it cook until golden brown. After adding the onions, stir it well and let it cook until soft (shiny stage). When the onions are ready go ahead and season with patis (fish sauce) and soy sauce. Cover the chicken and let it simmer for 2 minutes. After simmering for two minutes add 14oz. of tomato sauce, stir it well, replace cover, and bring it back to simmer. After the tomato sauce simmers, add one cube of chicken bouillon for extra flavor. Let it simmer again until the bouillon is totally dissolved. After the bouillon dissolves, add the potatoes and carrots, stir it well, and replace the cover. Let it simmer until potatoes and carrots are halfway cooked (about 4 minutes). After cooking the potatoes and carrots for 4 minutes add the green peas. Replace the cover and allow it to simmer for 2 minutes. After two minutes adjust the taste by adding more salt and pepper and patis if needed. When your satisfied with the taste bring it back to simmer. Finally you can now add the bell peppers, stir it really well, then replace the cover, and allow the bell peppers to cook for 3 minutes. You’re finally done and that’s all there is to it. Enjoy your chicken afritada!

18th March 2010

By Carmen B. Llauderes

The Holy Cross Catholic Church in Nicosia was filled with different parishioners to celebrate the 80th birthday of Rev. Fr. Umberto Barato, OFM last January 10, 2010. A musical program highlighted the event which was participated by different communities such as the Africans, Cameroonian Choir in particular, Filipino, Sri Lankan, Indian, Cypriots, Burmese, Irish, and Polish. Other groups included were the Faith and Light, Franciscan Sisters, Neocatechumen, and the church pianists namely Mr. Z. I. and Mrs. Maro H. Members of the Legion of Mary, Devine Mercy and the St. Joseph Social Center offered songs of praises and worship respectively while El Shaddai and Holy Cross Charismatic members offered a dance number. Ester Beatty’s son Matthew played a classical tune with his guitar while Letty Ramos presented a gift of donation in terms of cash in behalf of the parishioners. Fr. Umberto who serves the parish for nearly two decades thanked all parishioners for the eventful celebration.  He reminded everyone to observe unity and love to be called as good christians. “We cannot love one another if we are not one, we must be united,” he stressed. Later, he became emotional when he blew the candles and cut his birthday cake while everyone was singing the hymn of happy birthday at St. Francis Hall.

Initial talk re Papal’s voyage to Cyprus

18th March 2010

By Joy B. Miranda

When the news of Pope Benedict XVI’s coming to Cyprus was confirmed, an initial meeting was held last January to form working group committees. Yesterday, the first formal meeting for each committee was held at the Maronite Archbishop place. There are numbers of Filipinos involved in the Promotion committee, while I am assigned in the Media and Communication committee. I have included Scarlet Tugbo to be my assistant especially during reportage.

St. Catherine Summer Sports League 2009 – Awarding Ceremony

19th October 2009

By Arnel Ambon
The St Catherine Summer Sports League 2009 in Limassol was concluded last 16th August 2009 with the awarding ceremony of all deserving players and teams. Ceylon team, which is known as the Sri Lankan, retained the 2009-Volleyball Championship after a postponed final, which started on 02 August and finished on 09 August 2009. The sports league started with six volleyball teams namely Astrapi, Bibak, Ceylon Five Continents, Pinoy Mart and Western Union and the game format comprised of single round robin for the elimination round. Due to the minimal number of participating teams, the Olympic format with cross knockout in the semi-final and final was not employed. Teams Pinoy Mart and Bibak were eliminated after the round-robin games being the bottom two teams after the elimination round, the top four teams in order of rank were Western Union (winning all their round-robin games), Ceylon, Astrapi, and Five Continents. Team Western Union competed against the Ceylon for the 1st and 2nd place while Astrapi and Five Continents played for the 3rd and 4th place respectively. The round robin games were dominated by Western Union team with a record of  5-0 (win-loss) followed by the Sri Lankan with 4-1. It was a close battle between the two teams and both went up to play in the finals. In the Championship games, the Sri Lankan gave all what they have got and unleashed their killer set and attacks coupled with floating serves. Western union defended heavily by blocking and digging the attacks but the Sri Lankan in the end dominated the game, winning the championship with 3-0 sets. Astrapi dominated Five Continents during their game for the 3rd and 4th place.  2009_0816_loida_best-player.JPG  Here are the results and minor awards given to teams and individual players in Volleyball: Winner Sri Lankan, Runner-up Western Union, 3rd Place Astrapi and 4th Place Five Continents. MVP Lakshika Muthumali (Sri Lankan), Best Player Loida Asug (Western Union), Best Passer Mary Ann Albores (Astrapi), Best Digger Loida Asug (Western Union), Best Server Mary Grace Reodica (Astrapi), Best Hitter Lakshika Muthumali (Sri Lankan), Best Setter Joy Montejo, Best in Sportsmanship Team Bibak, Best Manager Melanie Racaza (Astrapi).
Meanwhile, in the Basketball event, there were three competing teams. The game format initially was set to single round robin but due to the players’ demand, it was extended to double round robin. All the teams tied up after the double round robin and the tie breaker rule points quotient system have to be applied to get the team standing. Team Zen Room waited for the finals while team Kabayan and Ilocos King competed for 3rd place. Ilocos King took the third place overall and team Kabayan competed with Zen Room with the best of three games for the championship slot. Team Zen Room eventually won the final games.

2009_0816_western-union-team_awarding.JPGHere are the results of the final standing and corresponding minor award in Basketball: Winner Zen Room, Runner-up Kabayan and 3rd Place Ilocos King. MVP was awarded to Rodel Ereneo of Zen Room team. Overall, the games have been conducted successfully without interruptions. There were some minor disagreements and clarifications concerning decisions of the referees but the players accepted the decision in a sportsmanlike manner. No yellow or red card was handed to any players in the volleyball team and no disqualification of players or teams have been applied. Special thanks to Parish Priest of St Catherine Church, to all the sponsors, volunteers and referees who have endeavoured to share their time. Most importantly, this sports league would have not been possible without the driving force and total dedication of the committee chaired by Ms Emelyn Sorilla. A big salute to them all.
